Tuesday I had the good fortune to join forces with an old friend and former Captain of mine, Phil Smith in an effort to waylay the trout. Phil had brought his friend Brian and their two sons down for the trip. Phil and I had fished together for several spring seasons in the early 90's out of Key Largo and through the Bahamas. He used to put me in the meat regularly on the ol' Dutley and today was my turn to see if we still had the same magic together on a boat...Turns out we did! We fought a naggy wind in some spots but ended up settling down on a nice bite over the last few areas we fished. There was the ever present competition amongst the dads and the young men...And the whole crowd did wonderfully. We picked away and caught a load of trout and some nice ones too. Ol' Phil and I fell right in like it was 20 years ago, rehashing old tales and it was nice meeting the rest of his gang. It was a real treat and I hope I get to see them again soon!
