A man's word

Posted By: JJ

Just got cancelled for my first trip of the season tomorrow. It was a two man group who had been referred to me by a friend. It was booked just a couple weeks ago and I was told that they'd be here the whole week. I was assured that they were good guys so I told them not to worry about a deposit. I had an ongoing dialog with the main man since the day of the booking and he seemed excited to go searching for the fish that are on the verge of going off in the sound here. I guess I made a mistake by shooting him straight in regards to the water temperature and that we would have to probably have to do some looking but I was confident that we'd get some bites somewhere. I was sure that they would get a great effort on a beautiful day. Well, after a tough day of golf he decided to call and inform me that they were going to pass on the fishing. Since they weren't biting good yet he didn't want to spend the money....I took the high road on the phone, but the more I thought about it all afternoon the more I stewed. All of the time, preparation and money aside, it is truly disappointing to deal with a fella that just doesn't get it. He's missing the big picture. To spend a day in the sound in the Spring is a real treat. Ospreys, Eagles and a host of terns and gulls abound. Mullets and fatbacks are showing up in numbers. Blue skies and calm winds are forecasted and the fish are here. When they decide to bite I want to be there....I guess maybe it's a not a bad thing that I won't be sharing my boat with a guy who can't appreciate spending time surrounded by this kind of beauty
and isn't good at his word.
