Ol' Smitty

Posted By: JJ

Met and fished with a guy today who I felt like I've known my whole life. Steve Smith rolled to the boat before time and solo. (That's two days in a row now the people have been early, which I like) He was in town with his family and decided to spend the early morning chasing the speckled trout while the wife and young kids rested. So we lit out as first light was just breaking. The morning sky was a beautiful deep purple to the western but showed signs of that impending a.m. thunderstorm just around the corner. And it was...We had just fished for a little while before we decided to hole up under the bridge while the thunder, lightning and rain came down and finally passed. We shot the breeze all morning, hitting on many topics. We caught some fish, covered some ground, casted a lot, got rained on some more...It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip for me because we hit it off so well and had a lot of things in common. He was an ECU Pirate by way of New Jersey, similar age, a hard worker, an old athlete, a family man, a believer in the word and common sense, as well as being eat up with the fishing. Between the rain and all the yacking we did, I just realized that I only took the one picture of his first or second cast of the morning. Anyway, pretty fish and a good dude to spend the morning with. He's one of the ones who gets it... Thanks again bud! Hope to see you back down here again
